[all] status update

Hi Everyone!

Sorry for a lot of silence on our end -- things have been quite hectic this summer! I accepted a new position and now am at Rochester Institute of Technology and busily getting a new lab set up (and having some students migrate along with me).

I'm going to let some of the work units clear out of the system and set up some new runs which should help fix some of the issues you've been seeing with bad workunits. In the longer term, I've started work on an updated binary which should also allow for the use of GPUs, which should hopefully allow the runs to scale a bit better without running into these problems.

I'll be keeping you posted as that comes along, but right now we're all just trying to get settled in a new place! Thanks again for all your support. The results coming in are definitely interesting ones!

[all] account manager issues update

Hi All,

It looks like the "team" table in the database had become corrupted and crashed. I repaired the database and it looks like all is working and I'm not seeing any errors on my end. Let me know if this fixed things for you.

cheers,

[all] account manager issues

Hi Everyone,

I've been getting reports of account manager issues. Could anyone provide screenshots so I can get a better idea of what may be going on?

We haven't changed anything server side, was there a recent account manager upgrade that might have broken things? I'll do some server side BOINC code updates tonight to see if that fixes things.

Please let me know if you have any more information about issues you may be seeing so I can help track down the problem.

thanks!

[all] disk issues on server

Looks like we're experiencing some kind of disk issue on the server. I've submitted a support ticket but in the mean time had to shut down the daemons. I hope we have this back up and running shortly.

[all] server issues

Looks like we're experiencing some issues server side where the file_deleter daemon isn't working right. I've cleaned up a little space and am running things to fix workunit/resuilt states in the database so the file deleter does it's job. Hoping to have things fixed by the morning but in the meantime things will be down while the cleanup is happening.

[all] data export issues?

Are you still experiencing data export issues? I know our IT staff was having some problems with hardware and the recent migration of where the virtual machine for citizen science grid is being housed. It looks like everything is running on my end but I just wanted to double check with everyone in case some export process got lost in the transition.

[all] min post credit

Hi All,

Since work is flowing pretty much steadily now, to help better deal with spammers I've set a minimum credit limit to post to 1. If this is going to be an issue (and now you can't post), please send me an email.

Also, to create a team a user will also need to have credit.

Hoping this helps!

[all] cooling failure - potential downtime

I've been informed that the cooling system has gone down in the university datacenter that houses the virtual machine that the Citizen Science Grid runs on. As of now, they're not going to be shutting down the virtual machine, but it's still a potential. I just wanted to get a warning message out to everyone in case the site goes down for a period of time. Our system administrators are working on it and hopefully we don't experience any downtime, but if we do they'll be doing their best to get things back up and running.

[all] travel alert

Just a heads up that I'm currently traveling until February 28th, so I apologize for any slow responses. I'll still be checking in to email and the forums periodically while I'm away, just not as frequently as usual.

[all] Interview with Team Gridcoin

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of chatting with some people from Team Gridcoin, who recorded the session. If you'd like to check it out, here it is!

Looking forward to the next one! I'll try and inform everyone when I'll be joining next if anyone else would like to take part.
