As per the note by Travis in the News section, this is a discussion as to what is an acceptable amount of credit to be awarded for the DNA (Sub)Project.

I will start by saying that my computers are by now classed as old and slow, being over 5 years old (bar the FX-8350)
AMD Phenom X4 Win 32 Bit --

DNA - (CPUtime) 4,913.53 seconds - (awarded points) 31.50 = 23.08 cr/h (1 sample)

SubsetSum - 6.759.38 seconds - 55.55 points = 29.59 cr/h
...................- 6,868.08 seconds - 55.89 points = 29.81 cr/h
...................- 6,760.91 seconds - 57.81 points = 30.78 cr/h (Avg= 29.88 cr/h (3 samples))

AMD FX-8350 Win 32 Bit--

DNA - 1,151.05 seconds - 8.32 = 26.02 cr/h
.................- 2,852.17 seconds - 17.34 = 21.89 cr/h
.................- 5,057.30 seconds - 29.81 = 21.22 cr/h
.................- 14,150.91 seconds - 79.61 = 20.25 cr/h (Avg= 20.95 cr/h (4 samples))

SubsetSum - 8,506.81 seconds - 57.00 = 24.12 cr/h
............................- 8,082.77 seconds - 56.24 = 25.05 cr/h
............................- 7,988.48 seconds - 54.79 = 24.69 cr/h (Avg= 24.61 cr/h (3 samples))

AMD Phenom X4 and X6 Linux 64 Bit --

DNA - 1,154.78 seconds - 7.72 = 24.07 cr/h
.................- 3,058.61 seconds - 18.39 = 21.65 cr/h
.................- 5,952.67 seconds - 32.13 = 19.43 cr/h
.................- 8,105.22 seconds - 48.00 = 21.32 cr/h
.................- 15,904.22 seconds - 80.87 = 18.31 cr/h
.................- 16,052.21 seconds - 92.26 = 20.69 cr/h (Avg = 20.02 cr/h (6 samples))

SubsetSum - 3,942.87 seconds - 57.04 = 52.08 cr/h
............................- 3,939.23 seconds - 54.19 = 49.52 cr/h
............................- 3,948.40 seconds - 53.39 = 48.68 cr/h
............................- 3,940.36 seconds - 54.74 = 50.01 cr/h
............................- 3,944.67 seconds - 54.98 = 50.18 cr/h (Avg = 50.09 cr/h (5 samples))

This will give a bit of a guide, you can easily see the difference between DNA granted credits and SubsetSum granted credits, and the difference between 32 Bit and 64 Bit (particularly with SubsetSum CPU times).

(I think I have not set up the FX-8350 (@4.0 GHz) correctly as the old Phenom X4 (@3.2 GHz) beats it every time, both 32 bit Windows, but that is another story, I think 64 bit will help the FX along.)

To add to this, right now there are basically WUs with a few different runtimes for DNA@Home. If anyone would want to offer some suggestions as to credit for the different runtimes I should be able to plug things into the FPOPS calculation to come up with a fixed credit value.

From longest running to shortest running:

largest size -- for these, snail should run longer than slug:
snail_hg19_1000fa_3motifs_6width_norepeats_1
slug_hg19_1000fa_3motifs_6width_norepeats_1

snail_hg19_1000fa_2motifs_6width_norepeats_1
slug_hg19_1000fa_2motifs_6width_norepeats_1

snail_hg19_1000fa_1motifs_6width_norepeats_1
slug_hg19_1000fa_1motifs_6width_norepeats_1

middle size -- snail and slug should run almost identically:
slug/snail_hg19_100fa_3motifs_6width_norepeats_1
slug/snail_hg19_100fa_2motifs_6width_norepeats_1
slug/snail_hg19_100fa_1motifs_6width_norepeats_1

small size -- snail and slug should run almost identically:
slug/snail_hg19_10fa_3motifs_6width_norepeats_1
slug/snail_hg19_10fa_2motifs_6width_norepeats_1
slug/snail_hg19_10fa_1motifs_6width_norepeats_1

Basically, the larger the value in front of fa, the longer the runtime, likewise the more motifs, the longer the runtime.

I think using credit new as a base with an up-credit factor for DNA to compensate for the active task limit many have due to WU size would be ok with me. Not sure what to use for a factor. Guess it depends on what a minimum GB RAM per core ratio the community thinks should be expected to run BOINC. If that factor was 1, 1GB RAM per core, then how many WUs could you safely/efficiently run without crashing, paging or causing some other negative issues on the system deterring a person from running BOINC? If you use your system for anything else other than BOINC, 1GB per core is not enough to run a DNA WU on every core. Not sure what RAM per core ratio should be or what up-credit factor to use. Just some thoughts.

Since the current batch started I ran 20+ cores on different machines and received about 10,000 credits per day.
Intuitively I would expect to receive 25,000 to 30,000 per day with these computers, that is a factor 2.5x to 3x.

I'm hoping to have some fixed credit up and running this weekend which should take care of this. Of course it'll take a bit of tweaking after that.

Latest tasks seem to be getting validated with zero credits.

Very weird, I've stopped all validation until I've found out what the issue is.
